At the AWRF Product and Information Exhibit in Ft. Worth TX this past April we spoke to Robert Bairstow, Chairman of the AWRF Preservation Committee. The AWRF Preservation Committee is responsible for collecting, preserving and displaying historic items from the rigging, tie down and load securement industry.
Robert showed us old literature and catalogs from some companies that were still in business but most of the companies had been absorbed by other companies over the years. There were thousands of photographs on display and videos from past conferences. From listening to some of the videos and looking at memorabilia we could really get a sense of the issues and goals of the time.
All these items and more are always on display at the Arthur Lakes Library, Colorado School of Mines in Colorado Springs, CO. If you are ever in the area stop in and have a look (http://library.mines.edu/ ).
Robert also encouraged members to send in their old photos, literature and memorabilia to Jeff Gilbert at P.O. Box 748, Walled Lake, MI. 48390 ( www.awrf.org ). The preservation committee is always looking for material to display at future conferences.
Good work Robert, thanks for keeping the memories alive and being part of our video series.
