Tom was born & raised in the area around Williamsport, PA and a 1972 graduate of Lafayette College, BS in Civil Engineering

He is a member of the 1972 Bethlehem Steel Corp. Loop Class, Fabricated Steel Construction Division and he moved to Bethlehem’s Wire Rope Division early 1976. He has been in the Engineering Department of Bethlehem/Williamsport Wirerope Works/Wirerope Works from 1976 to present, working mostly in fabricated products, specializing in structural applications of wire rope and structural strand products. He has been the company representative on Wire Rope Technical Board since 1994; and a Past Chairman

Among other accomplishments:

  • Member of sub-committee writing and consolidating ISO standard 17558 Steel Wire Ropes–Socketing Procedures–Molten Metal & Resin
  • Contributed with the other WRTB engineers to:
  • The updating of Wire Rope Users Manual, 4th edition and Wire Rope Sling Users Manual, 3rd edition
  • The technical writing of ASTM A1007 for roping wire, and ASTM A1023 for general purpose wire rope
  • Vice-Chair of ASCE committee on Steel Cables in Buildings, producing and updating ASCE 19 standard early 1990 to present

  • Denver Airport roof cables
  • Minneapolis Metrodome roof cables
  • Syracuse Univ. football stadium roof cables
  • Hood Canal floating bridge anchor cables (Washington State)
  • SR 520 floating bridge anchor cables (Washington State)
  • Mount Hope Bridge suspender replacement (Rhode Island)
  • Puente Duarte main cable and suspender replacement (Dominican Republic)
  • Several vertical lift bridge counterweight rope replacement projects
  • Many tied arch bridge hanger projects
  • Dozens of tower guying projects
  • Thousands of dragline, shovel and crane pendant orders going to North and South America, South
  • Africa and Australia

Tom’s outside interests include:

  • 41 years married to Karen
  • Daughter, Amy; Son-in-law, Jim, and their 2 children
  • Son, Christopher (deceased); his wife, Jennifer, and their 2 children
  • 35+ year church choir member
  • 23 year Boy Scout Chartered Organization Representative
  • Family tree research
